HAPPY CANADA DAY EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!

SO its 7:45am and I just got off work but I am so wired because today is my day off (well technically tonight is my night off). I have this whole day to relax...then tonight to celebrate Canada day and then all tomorrow to get over my hangover. Canada Day at ISCM is almost better then it is at home because 1) there's so many Canadians, 2) we try really hard to be the most obnoxious people at camp and 3) the 4th of July is only a few days away and we want our day to be WAY more fun then theirs and it usually is lol. We go all out with tattoos, stickers, pins, banners, flags, colour coordinated clothing....its very important that we outdress anyone else as you can imagine working at an International Camp would create some competition. This is a day when I would love to be home and attending fireworks, a bbq and an afternoon at Marcus's but if I had to be anywhere else in the world today I'm glad its here.

Hope everyone is having the most wonderful day in the world.

It's a tough life

I just got off my first shift as a night guard and I have to say that I'm not really tired. I only slept about 5 hours maybe but I'm doing pretty good considering. I'm in the Junior Villa with the 8-10 year olds who are too cute for words. I can sleep at night unless I'm woken up which I was but otherwise I watched Marley and Me which made me cry for about 20 minutes and was therefore tired enough to fall asleep in a strange place without freaking out.
Not sleeping is a theme here at ISCM....you always plan on going to bed early but you never do and then you can never catch up on your sleep until you leave. I could complain about it, and I do, but I shouldn't because in reality I have the best and easiest job ever and couldn't be happier with where I am.

Friday was our overnight hike which was pretty eventful weather wise...it hailed....then it rained....then the sun shone and then it was overcast....all in a few short hours! That's Switzerland!! My calves are still tight from that hike but luckily I haven't gotten a calf cramp WOO!! Friday night was the staff party, also known as the coming out party since there are only a few occasions when the staff all dress up and its a rare sight to not see someone in sweats and a ponytail. It was a disasterous night that's for sure...there's a limit to the drinks you can have which was 3, I had about 6 not to mention my pre drinking. Then we went to a bar called Harry's and got a drink and then did a Jagger....thennnnn my friend Jon made me do 2 jaggerbombs and then we had these rum shaker things oh dear. I got to bed at around 4am and then had to be up for breaky at 7:45 UGH myself and 98% of the staff were incredibly hungover all saturday.

Yesterday was arrival day for the campers and its always the most relaxing day and most exciting! There were 200 or so campers arriving by car with their parents so the road to camp was packed....arrival day is always the best day to sit out front and watch the Porche's, Aston Martin's, Mercedes and BMW's roll in....if you like cars, there's no where else to be! I spent the day laying by the pool and working on my tan :) it's a very important task for the summer, on my to do list!

That's about it for now...its the official first day of camp activities but while everyones getting started I'll be attempting to sleep for a few hours so that I don't die tonight. It's all about regulating my hours, if it's even possible!

Countdown to Canada Day: 2 days!!!

I'm in Switzy...

Sooooo I'm here in Switzerland and have been for 5 days and somehow it feels like I never left even though its been 2 years. Nothing at International Summer Camp Montana has really changed since I was last here but there are lots of cool new people to meet and some new additions to the building. When you're here you just kind of integrate yourself back into the routine of early mornings, looooong days and late nights so I'm already living on no sleep only 5 days in.

I'm sitting in our staff room taking it easy with CNN in the back round(it being one of the only english channels we get unfortunately) trying to catch up on what's happening in the world but right now the only important information has to do with Michael Jackson's death so I'm not getting far. Living at ISCM is like living in a bubble, so I'm going to try my best to keep updated with what's going on back at home.

Its really hard to describe what camp is like...its pretty surreal here but I'm going to try my best at it and hopefully you can get a glimpse of of my life here. This week has been pretty relaxed because of orientation week which is awesome because I'm still trying to organize my internal schedule to fit camp time. There are about 119 staff members and about 100 of them I didn't know so this week is about remembering names and getting to know the people I will be spending the next 8 weeks with. Today is our overnight hike which takes a few hours and we practice hiking up to the overnight hut so that we don't get lost(although it happens anyways). Its a beautiful view all the way up and although I've taken photos my past 2 summers I'll probably take more and post them either on here or facebook. Tonight is our staff party which is usually a shit show. We dress up, we drink on camp and get served by our directors, we go out and then we wake up hungover tomorrow for breakfast at 7:45am and have to survive a day of staff photos, swim tests and activities...at the time its a fabulous idea but the next day you always regret it.

I'm still not totally sure on how to write a blog or if anything I write is even remotely entertaining BUT I'm still working out the kinks so bare with me. I'm going to take videos and post a few photos too once I actually take some.

Oh and before I go...everyone should download skype. My name is janeannett and even though I'm 6 hours ahead, I'll be up most nights because of my position first session so I can schedule skype chats for sure!!

Until next time,
Jane
